If something has just happened.
Handle it by the crown, not the root. If it is dirty, rinse it briefly in milk or saline, and never scrub it, then either re-seat it in the socket and bite gently on a cloth, or keep it in milk. Call us immediately: with an adult tooth, the first hour matters more than anything else.
If swelling is affecting your eye, your swallowing or your breathing, or you have a fever with facial swelling, go to your nearest emergency department. Those need managing faster than a dental chair can.

It is not an emergency, but do not leave it. The exposed tooth is unprotected and can decay or fracture quickly, and re-cementing an intact crown is far simpler than rebuilding what is underneath it.
